Summary

Our world is wonderful, and it's up to us to take care of it。 You may feel small, but your actions can make a big difference。

This title encourages children to take care of the planet, but it doesn't just focus on the problems--it teaches them proper practical solutions to the issues facing our world today。 Veterinarian, author, and TV host Jess French guides kids through taking care of our planet, from living a sustainable lifestyle to using their voice in politics。 Unlike many books about the environment, Jess not only covers how to take care of plants and animals, but also the positive contribution that humans can make on each other's lives, too。 Strong themes of self-care and mindfulness run through the book, and kids are introduced to activism。 Discover how to reduce your carbon footprint, understand the importance of preserving our forests, oceans, and endangered animals, and learn the best ways to stand up for what you believe in。

Bright, cool illustrations by Aleesha Nandhra combine with photography to create vibrant, engaging spreads, and Jess French's encouraging and instructive text empowers kids to look after the environment, themselves, and each other。 What a Wonderful World is the perfect book to show children that being kind to each other and working together is the best way to start protecting the planet。

Beautifully outlined and illustrated, It's a Wonderful World is a good book for any early childhood student between the ages of 5-8 years of age (Pre-K - 3rd, in the US)。 This was a pretty good read and as an educator, I would add it to my science area as a reference book for students。 The information appeared accurate and it used language that was appropriate for young kids。 The imagery used in the book was diverse consisting of a mix of illustration and photographs which is important for stude Beautifully outlined and illustrated, It's a Wonderful World is a good book for any early childhood student between the ages of 5-8 years of age (Pre-K - 3rd, in the US)。 This was a pretty good read and as an educator, I would add it to my science area as a reference book for students。 The information appeared accurate and it used language that was appropriate for young kids。 The imagery used in the book was diverse consisting of a mix of illustration and photographs which is important for students developing comprehension and vocabulary。 VOCABULARY! This book use a ton of great science and social studies vocabulary。 My only hang up was that in certain topics, the content and text appeared to be overly dense and was packed onto the pages which may make it difficult for little eyes to follow。 Also, while informative, it reads like a judgmental piece on human's past actions practically on every page。 I'm not saying that there shouldn't be an acknowledgment of humans actions and their impact on Earth, but that it doesn't need to be on every page making past generations seem like great Earth destroyers。 。。。more

One of our favorite books is The Book of Brilliant Bugs, so we were excited to see a new book by Jess French。 This book did not disappoint。 Such beautiful, colorful illustrations and so much great information about our world delivered in a child friendly way。 We got lots of great ways we can help the plants and animals in our world。 We’re looking forward to adding this book to our book shelf。

Living in Alaska where wildlife is frequently as close as our own front yards, I found this book an informative read。 It's fascinating and I'm smugly glad to have been successful in making myself wait until Earth Day, today as I type, to post a review。 While the target audience seems to be perhaps middle school, it is a wonderful addition to anyone's library no matter what their age。 Younger children might not be able to grasp all the words but interaction with a parent or other adult as they lo Living in Alaska where wildlife is frequently as close as our own front yards, I found this book an informative read。 It's fascinating and I'm smugly glad to have been successful in making myself wait until Earth Day, today as I type, to post a review。 While the target audience seems to be perhaps middle school, it is a wonderful addition to anyone's library no matter what their age。 Younger children might not be able to grasp all the words but interaction with a parent or other adult as they look at the photos and discuss what they are seeing opens it up to all ages。 An easy read with many colorful illustrations and graphics, it breaks down huge chunks of information into easily digested, understood bites for the reader, no matter your age。I also particularly liked that in the midst of the info sharing, the author (and illustrator Aleesha Nandhra) remind us to take the time to not just watch but really enjoy such everyday events as a sunrise or sunset。 Preservation is emphasized but so, too, is to simply enjoy the wonders of nature while marveling at its intricacies and interconnections。 Having been fortunate enough to glimpse an abundance of wildlife on a glacier tour, think the ice sheet section, I could appreciate seeing a glacier bear live even more now。 It was also intriguing to be reminded of the life going on beneath or feet, too, as well as why different species adapted to different environments and how。Bottom line, a wonderful book for our wonderful world。 Thank you #NetGalley and #DK - #DKChildren for inviting me on your lovely, colorful tour of our wonderful world。 。。。more

This is such a wonderful and celebratory Earth Advocate book for children ages 7-9! I appreciate so much that the starting point for the topics throughout the book is one of scientific wonder and appreciation。 Then, in that context the challenges and problems we face with Earth care and climate change are discussed。 Every page has some information about a wide range of topics (plants, algae, funig, biodiversity, insects, migration, coral reefs, deserts, ice sheets, and many more!) In addition, each section has a "the bad" section or "how can you help" section that provides some insight onto what the Earth is facing and how we can make changes。 Even the title of this book is fantastic -- It's a Wonderful World。 I appreciate so much that this is not alarmist or anxiety-inducing for children, but rather empowering and inspiring。 **Note: I was given a review copy of this book via DK。 Opinions are my own。For more Climate Change and Earth Advocate books for children visit my website:https://thesilvanreverie。com/2022/04/。。。 。。。more

An insight into the world’s environment。I had high expectations for It’s A Wonderful World and each one was not only met, but surpassed。 With everything from where the Earth sits in the universe, to dung beetles and humpback whales and through to a glossary of terms, this is a book to ignite a child’s imagination and hook them into an understanding of their place in the world and what they might do to help it。I thought the direct appeal to the reader from Jess French’s Introduction gave importan An insight into the world’s environment。I had high expectations for It’s A Wonderful World and each one was not only met, but surpassed。 With everything from where the Earth sits in the universe, to dung beetles and humpback whales and through to a glossary of terms, this is a book to ignite a child’s imagination and hook them into an understanding of their place in the world and what they might do to help it。I thought the direct appeal to the reader from Jess French’s Introduction gave important status to children and made them feel as if they had a role to play。 I think it sits best with children aged 6-9, although I can imagine older children with extra educational needs being thoroughly engaged too。 There are activities included such as cloud gazing, or creating a wild area even in a small space, that are readily accessible to young readers, but It’s A Wonderful World has so much more to offer in a wider context。 That glossary can aid literacy, as can the new vocabulary or using the index to show children how to access information in written form rather than simply googling mindlessly。 Science through the water cycle or geography through the section on rain forests or wetlands might lead to further classroom exploration and I can imagine speaking and listening activities, letter writing, project work and forest schools drawing on It’s A Wonderful World time and again。Alongside small, accessible chunks of text are magnificent illustrations and photographs so that It’s A Wonderful World is vivid, engaging and a real feast for the eyes。 As always with this publisher’s books, the cover is solid and robust so that it will withstand much handling in the home or classroom。 I also have to admire the fact the book is printed with responsibly sourced materials and soy ink in keeping with its environmental theme。It’s A Wonderful World is filled with fascinating facts, simple tips for all, not just children, to adopt to help the planet and is beautifully presented to draw in visual learners too。 I thought it was excellent。 。。。more
